The aim of the territorial study is to evaluate the area, especially the narrower core of the Ostrava agglomeration, in terms of the risk of overheating and the formation of thermal islands and to propose measures to limit this overheating and thus obtain a more favorable environment for the life of the population. Together with climate change, an increase in the average annual temperature by about 2.5 °C and a significantly higher number of summer and tropical days are expected, so overheating of surfaces and deterioration of the quality of the environment or the well-being of their inhabitants can be expected in the densely urbanized area of the Ostrava agglomeration, especially in its narrower core. Climate change will affect the quality and health of the population, especially in cities. Seniors, chronically ill people and young children are the most sensitive to elevated temperatures (and heat waves). However, the increase in temperatures also has an impact on other sectors of human activity (working environment, production, tourism, etc.). The task of the spatial study will be to locate risk areas and propose appropriate adaptation measures to prevent excessive overheating and improve the climate in settlements. The added value of the spatial study will be its usability in designing built-up areas in spatial planning documentation, or determining the conditions for their use, so that the negative effects of climate change are avoided as much as possible.
